World Challenge 2016 departs

We'd like to say bon voyage to the sixteen students from Years 11 – 13 who set off on their World Challenge expedition to Mongolia and China on Monday 11 July. These pupils have departed after 18 months of careful planning and fundraising along with Head of Biology, Mr Brown and Miss Morris who teaches English.

World Challenge aims to support and facilitate the development of young people through life-changing experiences, by providing a safe environment for them to explore the limits of their comfort zones. Hopefully, their involvement will allow them to grow in confidence and resourcefulness; both of which are key qualities that help to build successful and fulfilling lives.

The expedition started long before the date of departure, however, with planning, team building, fitness training and fundraising being important aspects of the preparations. The actual expedition is made up of following four phases: acclimatisation, trekking, project and rest & relaxation. Participation and teamwork are essential factors behind any successful expedition.

Since the expedition launch in 2014, the students have been busy raising over £4,000 each to enable them to take part in this trip of a lifetime. During their month away they will be trekking and camping through the Mongolian Steppe, spend a week volunteering at a local orphanage and to finish off spend a few days enjoying the cultural highlights of Beijing.

Part of the World Challenge ethos is to ensure that students experience cultures and environments very different to their home country. This brings an appreciation of the challenges facing other cultures and hopefully awakens the desire to understand, explore and develop a global perspective on life.

Organised by the World Challenge school expedition, this trip is one of the broad range of extracurricular experiences on offer to students at Chipping Campden School to enabling them to explore different cultures and develop valuable life skills.
