Speakers for schools

On Friday 24 we hosted a visit from Will Wyatt CBE, formerly Managing Director, BBC Television (1991-1996) and Chief Executive BBC Broadcast (1996-9).

When he was Chief Executive BBC Broadcast, he had responsibility for the BBC's UK television, radio and internet services, launching the digital channels, and was also deputy to the Director-General John Birt. He was Vice-President of the European Broadcasting Union and from 2000-4 President of the Royal Television Society.

Mr Wyatt's talk to Sixth Form students, facilitated by the Speakers for School programme, detailed his impressive career in the media. He presentation 'Three mistakes in the movie of my life' demonstrated to the audience how it is important to make the most of opportunities that come your way.

He offered advice on careers in journalism, and took questions about government and politics, the referendum, the future of the BBC and the reincarnation of Top Gear. It was most informative and engaging afternoon.

Speakers for Schools is an independent education charity that provides young people in UK state schools with access to leading figures, for inspirational talks, free of charge.

By sharing top-level experience, inspiration and insights, its purpose is to level the playing field of opportunities for stimulation and encouragement by those who shape the world of today.
