“Teachers create a culture in classrooms where pupils feel able to take risks and work on open-ended research tasks. Pupils are motivated by these activities and so make excellent progress.” Ofsted 2017

A complete, diverse range of subjects with skillful teaching

At Chipping Campden we offer a rich and diverse range of curriculum subjects which allows students to discover and develop their own skills and talents.

We have a two week timetable of 50 one hour lessons. In addition we have an average of 20 minutes per day for tutor time or an assembly.

Students at Key Stage 3 (years 7-9) follow a broad and balanced curriculum studying the core subjects of English, Maths and Science alongside History, Geography, Religious Education, Physical Education, Technology subjects, Art, Music, Drama (from year 8) and Computing. The vast majority of students study two languages. All students learn French; Spanish and German are the second subject options. Students in year 7 are prepared for success in their studies by following a thinking and learning skills programme taught discretely. Students in years 8 and 9 have a Citizenship component in their curriculum.

During year 9, students make their option choices and so begin to personalise their curriculum for Key Stage 4 (Years 10,11).

Key Stage 4

All students in years 10 and 11 will follow a common core curriculum of GCSE English, Maths, Science, and the non examined courses; Physical Education and Personal, Social, health and religious education. They take 4 other subjects. The vast majority of students will take 4 optional GCSE subjects; some will take a GCSE equivalent such as a BTEC.

Students and parents are given detailed information and guidance regarding Key stage 4 option choices during year 9.

The Key Stage 4 options are:

Art Resistant Materials RE (at GCSE and AS level)
Drama German Geography
Music French History
Textiles Spanish Business Studies
Food Technology PE Society, Health and Development
Product Design Sport Engineering
Graphics Computer Science Land Based Studies and Rural Craft
Please note: This can vary slightly year by year

Within the core, there is personalisation too. Some students will take three separate Science GCSEs (Biology, Chemistry and Physics) whilst others, the majority, will take two GCSEs in Science.

English can be examined via two separate GCSEs, Language and Literature, or via a combined exam.

Subject staff will determine the best fit for each student to ensure that all students have the opportunity to demonstrate their skills and aptitudes and get the best qualifications possible.

The Sixth Form / Key Stage 5

Students studying at Chipping Campden in the Sixth Form can choose from a extensive range of A level subjects.

Typically students will take four AS subjects in year 12 and carry on three of these into year 13. Alongside their A level courses, students can gain additional qualifications via the Extended project qualification and Open University courses.

Equivalent qualification courses are also available in Health and Social Care, Business and Sport. If necessary, students have the opportunity to re-sit GCSEs in English and/or Maths.
